I wanted to have a child, not marry one!

Five new postcards from two continents

Good day to you postcard-fans, I have another 5 postcards to write about, bringing me to a grand total of 80 postcards.

First is another (and I suspect, my last) Postcrossing postcard, from Belgium. It has a picture of what looks like a pink chrysanthemum on the front. I did pretty well out of sending only one postcard to Postcrossing! It's a good website, and I would recommend you send a postcard...although obviously you should send me one first.

Next is a postcard from Atlanta, Georgia, USA, sent by Melissa. It has a very cool picture of a sort of goth faery type on it. It's by a lady named Amy Brown who paints lots of cool paintings of faeries. Check out www.amybrownart.com for more.

Third is a postcard from my friend Hugo who I see down the pub. This postcard has a picture of a woman in bed, crying, and thinking 'I wanted to have a child (sob), not marry one!' This first of all made me chuckle, and then think 'true, a lot of men are like children' and then think about how I am never going to get married so will never have to endure a child-husband. Hurrah! Unless of course, Mark Lanegan, when I see him live next month, proposes to me. I suspect this may happen.

Cue my next postcards, addressed to me with Lanegan as my surname. You're all catching on! Charles sent me these two nice postcards from Colorado. Did you know that Colorado means 'coloured red'? I did not. One of the postcards is of Denver, and the other is a lovely picture of some autumn foliage. Autumn is my favourite season. I have a habit which has lingered from childhood, of picking up conkers (chestnuts for those of you who aren't from the UK) off the floor and hoarding them like some sort of squirrel. They are shiny.

And One More Makes 75

A postcard from Turkey helps me make three quarters of my target

Thank you John for this postcard from Turkey, which I got on Saturday morning. Now I have 75 postcards!

25 more to go and I've reached target number two, and all my pestering and publicising will have something to show for it.

This postcard is from Side in Turkey (pronounced Seeday- thanks for that!), which is a 'lovely place where you can see hummingbirds in your garden'. That sounds really nice, I don't think I've ever even seen a hummingbird in my life.

Since this is my only postcard to write about today, I might as well stick a big link up:

New Zealand, Greece, Finland, USA...

Plus More from the UK

Hello postcard-fans, I've got a big huge update for you today, consisting of a massive TEN new postcards. Rock on!

It's been a few days since my last update, but I've been poorly this week.

So let's get started.

First of all, I have 3 more Postcrossing postcards. I can't believe I got 5 from only sending 1! That's pretty good. I'm thinking of having some Send Me a Postcard postcards printed as adverts for the site. Maybe I'll start by sending a few around the world.

The first card is from Judy, from the US, specifically Asheville, North Carolina (well, that's what's on the postcard), and features a nice view of her hometown.

Number two is from Aotearoa, New Zealand, sent by Christine. The postcard is of Auckland, where she used to live. She has made me very jealous by saying she was off to the beach at the weekend. I'll bet they're starting to enjoy a lovely summer over there just as winter sets in over here.

Third and last from postcrossing is a postcard from Krista in Finland, who got this card from a comics festival. She also mentions her boyfriend's band's website, www.faroband.net . Check it out!

The characters on this postcard are a little strange...is that a snake or a living tail?

Next is a postcard from Greece, from my friend Tim, who recently went there on holiday. It says 'Greek Islands' on it, but I'm not sure which one. I'd like to find out though and go there and have a look! It's one of those pictures that you can stare at and wish you were sat there instead of in your stupid office.

Fifth (halfway there-phew!) is a postcard with an old photo of the Cock and Bottle Inn in Leeds. it no longer exists. RIP Cock and Bottle. Thank you Chris for this postcard, and thanks for saying you are going to send more! Need more people like that!

Next is a postcard from my friend Michael, of a town called Woburn, which is in Bedfordshire, where he was born. It has a picture of a boutique and a zebra crossing. I have no idea what else Woburn has so I'll quote Michael: "Woburn has its own safari park and more overpriced antiques shops than you can shake a stick at". A challenge to stick-shakers everywhere.

Seventh is from Ali, a 17 year old high school senior who is starting college next year. It is of a lovely looking place in New York called Rochester. According to the postcard, Rochester "is widely known as the "Flower City""; you can see why if you look at the pictures on the front. Thanks Ali, and thanks for saying nice things about the site :)

Eighth comes from Andy in Fleetwood, and does not in fact feature a picture of Fleetwood (where I have been many times), but has an ace picture of the QE2, the Red Arrows and Concorde IN FORMATION! Yes that's right, in formation. I didn't know that such cool things existed. Andy says he got my web address after an email discussion between Liam and Dan, who he doesn't know. I don't know them either. Does anyone know who Liam and Dan are? If you are in fact Liam or Dan, please send me a postcard :)

The first of two which I received today is from April in the US, who is also from the board at xpostcardx.proboards49.com. Thanks for the tip on getting more postcards! I guess bus stations all look the same the world over...

Last but not least is a postcard from Southport, from my best mate Emma who has finally got round to sending me one! She wrote me this when her Man Candy, Andy, was busy poiing, and after she had made herself sick eating a scone. She also acknowledges my true future surname... :)

From Chicago to Belgium to Finland...

With a stop off in Kirkham along the way!

Hello! From the last few days I have 4 new postcards to tell you about. That's a grand total of 64 I believe. After I hit the 50 mark I never set a new target, so I'll do it now. Let's make it a nice round 100. When I get 100 it'll be interesting to work out some things such as what percentage comes from whichever country, and how many come from total strangers, etc. So keep them coming in, send the link on to as many people as possible, and help me reach my target! A lot of people are under the impression that they have to be on holiday or somewhere exotic before they can send a postcard to me. This is not true! I am just as interested in postcards from little villages as I am from big cities.

So anyway, the first postcard is from my Grandpa, and is a picture of a Gypsy caravan, in my home town of Kirkham (yes, if you are observant, a while ago I told you it was Wesham. But they are essentially the same place). I have to admit it took me a couple of seconds to realise it was Kirkham because the photo is so old. But I soon realised it was the market square, with St Michael's church in the background. Those three buildings are now the Co-op Village Store, a chemists, a bookies, and a pet shop. If you've read any of my early posts you'll realise why this postcard is so very well suited to me. If not, i won't bore you with the details. I think I might put this postcard on my wall at work, I just like looking at the picture so much.

kirkham market square

kirkham market square back

The next two postcards are from Finland and Belgium, from Iita and Martijn respectively. These cards, I have to admit, are a result of me sending one postcard to Postcrossing (google it). I did this to try and publicise the site. Hopefully people who like postcards will come here! I'm still counting these though, just as I would count a postcard that someone randomly sent me from their holidays with no knowledge of this site. Every postcard through my door counts!

The final postcard, which I received today, is of Sears Tower in Chicago, and is from Tyler (I think this is right I couldn't quite read the last 2 letters, apologies if I'm wrong), who says "over the next year I will try and send you a few different ones from the States..." That's the spirit! I need more people like this!

So there you have it, four brand new postcards. By the way I have a new little hamster friend called Poppy...she likes postcards too :)

Barcelona, Milano, Bergamo

People are enjoying their holidays

First of all I'd like to say what an amazing time I had in Prague! It's an absolutely gorgeous city in every way, with lot of great (and cheap) beer to keep me occupied...

I'm going back there in January (well, that's the plan), and in the meantime I'm trying to learn Czech, to make ordering beers even easier. So if anyone fancies writing me a postcard in Czech that would be ace. Keep it simple though, I've just about grasped 20 words/phrases so i'm not exactly going to be fluent anytime soon.

Anyway, postcards...

First is one from my friend Charlotte who just got back from Barcelona last week. As you can see, she didn't find a stamp, so I was given this at the airport on the way to Prague :)

la ramble barcelona

la ramble barcelona back

It has a map of La Rambla, a place I visited only 2 months ago. If you look at the map, you can see where I stayed. It's right near Portal de la Pau. If you are ever there, you can recognise it by the fact that our flat was above a sex shop/peep show, with loads of prostitutes hanging around. Amazing flat though!

The next two are from Sarah, who sounds like she had an amazing time in Italy. One is from Milan, the other from Bergamo. I've been to Italy but never to either of these places, but from the pictures they look lovely. Sarah writes that a lot of postcards in Italy, you are not allowed to write below the line. Talk about oppression! If you're going to send me a postcard from Italy, please write below the line, just to annoy whoever it is that doesn't want you to.

Dupont's Gunpowder and EIGHT from Scotland!

Yes, a whole nine postcards

Hi, as the title of this suggests, I have nine postcards to tell you about.

The first is from Shaun in Delaware, and is a postcard with an old advert for gunpowder on it. Shaun got this from Hagley museum. I really like old adverts so this is a great postcard. I'll even turn a blind eye to the fact it has hunting on it, what with it being old and everything... I guess humans weren't as civilised back then :p

Thanks Shaun for this excellent postcard, and your nice comment about the website :)

Next are EIGHT yes EIGHT postcards from Alexander. These postcards are special as they are all his own work, and only 500 were produced of each. They each feature a lovely picture from where Alexander lives (I'm guessing Argyll), and I'm very pleased with them. So a huge thank you to Alexander for sending me this fantastic collection of postcards. He also informs me that a person who collects postcards is a deltioligist. So I am one of those now as well.

Wish I Was There...

A postcard from the world's finest city and one that's made me jealous

I have two lovely new postcards to update you with today. The first is from Alex, who sent me a fantastic postcard depicting Preston by night. I am originally from a small town very close to Preston, and I still love the place and go back occasionally. Alex has kindly included some facts about Preston, which help to show why it is possibly the world's greatest city (I use the word 'city' loosely), and people from Preston are the best ever (I am slightly biased here of course).

So now you know why I love it. *sniff*.

Second today is a postcard from Lex and Vicki who have been living in Kinloch castle (shown on the postcard) for the last week. I am so jealous. How cool would it be to live in a castle? I'm getting ideas now for my next holiday. Me + lots of friends + castle + beer = fun holiday. Apparently they drank too much at a ceilidh. If you are reading this and have never been to a ceilidh, please listen when I say they are so much fun. OK so at first the idea of traditional Irish or Scottish dancing might sound a bit crap, but it is great! I've done it a couple of times with a load of friends. It's best when you've had a few beers. Last time I may have had too many beers. I managed to somehow swap partners in the middle of a dance, and in another dance, I ended up completely confused, standing there whilst people danced around me, wondering what the hell I was supposed to be doing. I also got my kitten heel stuck in a grate. I'd still recommend it though!

The castle and the scenery look absolutely gorgeous, and I know it sounds silly but I really like the shape of this postcard...it isn't a traditional shape, and when I came home yesterday I glanced at the pile of post and thought I hadn't got any postcards. But hello! What is this? Yaaaaaaay!

Make A Postcard!

Over the coming months I will be giving you ideas of how to make your own postcards. To begin with, let's start with the Office Postcard. This is something you can do on your lunchbreak if you work in an office with access to stationary supplies. It only takes 10 minutes.

Look at my postcard below; ok, I know it shows creative genius, but don't panic, I don't expect all your postcards to be of such a high quality :p

I Pity the Fool that tries to pronounce Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwll-llantysiliogogogoch

Wales, A-Team, Lizards and a Head

Hello! Today I have 4 postcards to update you with. The first one is very cool, some pictures of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwll-llantysiliogogogoch in Wales, sent by my Gran. Have a go at pronouncing that! I can by the way. My mum taught me when I was little. But what I didn't know is the word 'hazel' is in there! Rock on! It translates as Church Mary a hollow white hazel near to the rapid whirlpool church saint's name cave red.

More hazel-themed postcards would be ace! There are lots of things to do with hazel, a tree, a nut, a colour...erm...me....er...an ancient sitcom starring Shirley Booth, a band signed to Sub Pop...

The next postcard was kindly sent by Heather, Lizzie and Lisa on their way to the Robbie Williams concert in Glasgow! It is lovely that I got to hear from them before they died of Crapmusicitis. The postcard features a weird fibreglass head, and they found it in the Kelvingrove Art Gallery.

Postcard three is from Swin and is of Lizard Point, apparently the most southerly point of mainland Britain. I wonder if there are actually lizards there? I really like lizards. They are so cute, I'd love to keep them as pets. Problem is they eat crickets, and I have a morbid fear of crickets, wasps, daddy long legses, and similar winged or jumping beasts. Maybe I could get an iguana, they can be vegetarians apparently.

The last postcard is from Paul, one of my MySpace friends. After sending out a million bulletins, finally someone has sent me one from here! I have nearly 600 'friends' on there, it's about bloody time (myspace.com/pearlhoneyinchains).

Thanks Paul for this ace postcard of Mr T. God damn it, it's gold and shiny, it has BA on it, I can't stop looking at it! Now the A-Team theme is in my head...

Where do your postcards go?

P.S. Please don't stalk me

My friend Rob kindly gave me this image of West Didsbury, just so you lovely postcard senders can see where your postcards are ending up. Yes, this is my area. Wow, look at all those tennis courts.

I wish I had one.
